Welcome to Oglefood.
I am not an experienced cook, nor am I stereotypical well-heeled foodie dining at exclusive spots around town. I’m just a girl who likes to eat and eat well who loves trying new things in the kitchen, restaurants or on store shelves. I have no qualifications to be a food blogger, but I am a lover of food.
The germ of the idea for this blog has been with me for a long, long time. In experience, the six years I’ve held onto the domain registration may well have been a lifetime in the events and changes in my life. I had barely begun blogging when I discovered posting pictures of food for Wordless Wednesday, I got many more comments than posting other types of imagines.
No question, people respond to food. Be it bagels and coffee for an early morning meeting or pizza and beer to attracted friends to help with moving heavy objects, food equals motivation. Shouldn’t be a surprise when looking at the primary reason for eating: nourishment for the body. Before food was plentiful, and in places it still isn’t, procuring a day’s nourishment was the focus of human endeavor.
As a modern American, I have no trouble finding food to insure survival for myself and my family. If anything, the ready availability of foods is a hazard in itself. Our wiring to seek high fat, salt and sugar foods hasn’t changed just because we’re sitting behind computers instead of walking miles each day hunting and gathering. It is an odd problem never faced by mankind before modern times. Like they say on Twitter, #FirstWorldProblems. An over abundance of food is the mother of them all.
But this blog is not about calorie cutting or shame about “good” and “bad” food.
It is a celebration of culinary delight.
Both simple and elegant fare will be pictured in day to day eating and special occasions. The joy of eating, the satisfaction of a simple meal or the heady success of a new recipe debuting to rave reviews, will be the center piece. Restaurant meals and snack food will be pictured and reviewed, as will kitchen tools and tricks I find useful. Of course, I know from years of blogging – I’m on the third incarnation of my personal blog – intentions aren’t always a road map. I only know for sure when an idea has survived so much and so long, it should be acted upon and the rest we’ll make up as we go. Should be an adventure.
Wonderfull job.
We are sooo family. I love to cook. I love watching people enjoying their food. Cooking is one of my greatest pleasures.
I love that I get to learn that about you.
While I’ve “fixed” food since I was a teenager and started baking in my early twenties, I hadn’t done much serious cooking. During my marriage (happily divorced since May 2011, separated since February 2010), I was always the primary breadwinner and not the primary housekeeper and cook.
It’s been awesome having the chance to manage my little household and cook. Even better, my boyfriend is not a picky eater. He cheerfully submits to my experiments. I’ve come up with some winners and a few never to be repeated. I’ve got plenty of ideas and recipes to try. Between Chris and the new blog, I have plenty of inspiration to avoid getting in a rut in the kitchen.
